Taking the Hyderabad Centre to New Heights

Dr. Sarat Babu heads the C-DAC Hyderabad Centre and has been involved with his team in taking C-DAC Hyderabad to new heights. C-DAC CONNECT profiles him here.

With 20 years of experience in R&D, training, project planning and coordination, Dr. Sarat Babu’s induction into C-DAC a year ago has been natural and invigorating particularly for the Hyderabad Centre he heads. A brief stint at REC, Warangal and with Indian Telephone Industries where, he was part of the team involved in designing the first digital switch (Digital ILT), Dr. Sarat Babu then joined the DoE, presently the Department of Information Technology. An internal circular inviting applications for a professional to lead C-DAC’s new centre at Hyderabad, tempted him to share his experience and ‘contribute my services to C-DAC and the most happening state of Andhra Pradesh,’ he says.

Dr. Babu’s leadership has seen the Hyderabad Centre emerge as an innovative one imparting training not only to DAC students but VLSI training and short-term courses in JAVA, Advance JAVA and RDBMS, a course on Web Learning Technologies for senior faculty from different universities and placements for students of DAC and VLSI. A proposal for Web Learning & Content Creation Tool Development to the Department of Information Technology is being actively pursued.

Pride in working as a member of C-DAC is evident when Dr. Sarat Babu unflinchingly admits that ‘C-DAC has brought India on to the world map of supercomputing’ as for him, ‘for the first time, I could publish in IEEE; transactions on Measurements and Instrumentation. C-DAC is the right place to work in advanced areas of technology. I am sure, with our strong intellectual base we can do pioneering work in the area of Information Technology.’ he adds.

Challenges are taken in his stride. The establishment of the Hyderabad Centre and turning it into a vibrant training and software development, profit making centre involved careful planning and good leadership so imperative to motivate a team to work hard and achieve milestones within a short span. Not surprisingly a lot has been achieved so fast.

Beyond his heavily packed schedule involving almost 10-12 hours of work daily packed in a six day week, Dr. Sarat Babu enjoys listening to Telegu songs, watching TV for news and movies, spending time with his friends and family : daughters Sindhuja and Neeharika and wife Radhika.

‘Working in leading edge technologies is one important aspect that I enjoy in C-DAC. My team members are always ready to take up responsibilities and one can find people with exceptional backgrounds in this organisation’ he comments. Dr. Sarat Babu’s expectations from his colleagues is to work with dedication and utmost commitment to keep the pride of C-DAC always flying high. He sets a fine example, with his whole hearted dedication and eye for details. According to him, C-DAC has the potential to multiply its revenues from training alone if it can expand its activities and distribute the operations region-wise and open-up training activities into some unique courses like embedded Real-time systems; Telecom and Computer networking technologies.
