Jyotsna
Muralidharan has been with C-DAC since 1989. She began her career
with the Intellectual Resource Department (IRD) in Pune. Shortly after that, her
expertise was sought in the Multilingual and Multimedia Group (today known as
GIST Group) until she was transferred to Bangalore in 1993, at the C-DAC Bangalore
Centre.
Jyotsna spoke to C-DAC Connect
on her association with C-DAC for the last 12 years. Excerpts:
On her work and responsibility:
I am presently responsible
for all materials procurement for the R&D and Business Divisions as well as the
ACTS activities of the Bangalore Centre. All material related issues, viz. purchases,
stores, material movement in and out of C-DAC are overseen by me, which means
an active participation in the pricing for tenders and for the Business Division.
The most exciting part of
her work
“I enjoy almost every aspect
of my job right from interacting with people for their requirements, interaction
with vendors of different profiles, local as well as overseas. In fact what I
enjoy most is the rapport I have with all my colleagues in Pune where I was stationed
for 4 years, with all my colleagues in Bangalore and most important, with all
the vendors. A good rapport with the vendors has in fact seen C-DAC out of a lot
of crisis situations where, procurements have been very critical with respect
to lead times."
The most demanding aspect
of her responsibilities
‘The nature of my job is in
itself very demanding but not difficult. Demanding, because the achievement of
C-DAC’s mission targets are largely dependant on how fast the materials are made
available for the projects as well as to customers for whom we undertake turnkey
projects.”
“It is demanding because it
involves overcoming several hurdles, such as the inability of the vendor to deliver
items on time, which means that decisions need to be taken regarding diverting
orders to another vendor. This is a very tricky situation that involves, taking
the risk of depending solely on the commitment given by the other vendor.
” Quoting an example, she says,
“A critical consignment may be held up at Customs who seek a few clarifications.
This is a situation where the Customs Authorities have to be met and convinced
and the consignment secured within the deadline given to the indentor or to the
customer."
On C-DAC
For Jyotsna, C-DAC is like
a second home. “I have grown with the organization. The uniqueness in C-DAC is
that we have always worked in an open environment and enjoy the feeling of being
part of a close-knit family. All my seniors in every aspect guided me and that
helped me to perform effectively. In fact I have seen C-DAC going through a lot
of turbulence and emerge unscathed, which in itself has taught me a lot in life.”
