Text to Speech System

The Text to Speech is a system which will allow users to access information on the Internet through audio interface i.e. the system will be capable of reading out the textual information to the users so that the user can obtain the same information by listening rather than reading. This facility can lead to several advantages such as:

One can have access to any written information without having to read it. This will allow access of information even by illiterates( who cannot read/write)

The above advantage will also lead to access of information by using screen less devices such as telephone.

With the help of a suitable translation system, the audio information can also be output in local languages for the benefit of people who understand only local languages.

The system will also provide an opportunity to the visually impaired people to enjoy access of information from the web or any other written information.

Mantra I - to - I

In India, different states deal with different official languages. This multiplicity of languages exhibit our ancient culture, but at times leads to a language barrier that creates a big common gap and often impedes quick and smooth flow of information across people speaking different languages. These problems can be largely overcome if we have a technology that can automatically translate information from one Indian language to another. This is exactly what Mantra I - to - I system is targeted at. It is a domain-based multilingual translation system that when fully developed and implemented will be able to translate text from one Indian language to another. An incremental approach will have to be taken to develop this technology, i.e. the system will be gradually developed by concentrating on few operation domains like Agriculture, Banking, and a few chosen languages to start with.
