Precision
Farming
Indian
agriculture plays an important role in most Asian economies
and has a direct impact on the lives of every citizen.
Hence initialization of information and communication
technology for better crop production will not only
be great help to the farmers but to the entire nation.
Precision farming aims at utilizing information technology
to gather, store, view and analyze a vast amount of
crop data, such as fertilizers, pesticides, tillage
and irrigation, water, which can then be converted into
usable knowledge to make better management decisions
for increased crop produce of better quality. This would
help farmers in improving their profitability with reduced
risks. A precision farming system will deal with technologies
like Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographical Information
System (GIS), grain yield monitors and computer controllers
based on variable rate technology.
The most profitable
use of precision farming technology are likely to be
found in information system applications, diagnosis
of crop problems, equipment use efficiency, risk management,
crop differentiation, and process control.
