Established in March
1988, as a Scientific Society of the Department
of Information Technology (formerly, Dept. of Electronics),
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology
(formerly The Department of Electronics), Government
of India, The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing
(C-DAC),
is primarily an R&D institution involved in the design, development and
deployment of advanced Information Technology (IT) based
solutions including a range of high performance parallel
computers known as the PARAM series.
C-DAC, Hyderabad is
engaged in research in the domains of eSecurity, eLearning,
Supply Chain Management, Open Source Software, VLSI
and Embedded Systems Design. The centre is also committed
to provide postgraduate level training in embedded systems
design, VLSI design and advanced computing with the
following objectives:
- Knowledge Creation through
R&D and learning
- Knowledge Application through projects,
products and services
- Knowledge Dissemination through
training and development of new courses
As part of this initiative,
the centre regularly conducts short-term courses to
meet the industry needs in the areas of Embedded Systems,
VLSI design and software technologies.
The
Workshop
With the growing importance
of the embedded systems, the need to design embedded
applications with micro controllers having advanced
features is gaining prominence.
ARM, an Advanced RISC
Machine is emerging as the de facto standard for embedded
RISC processing across communication, networking, consumer,
portable, automotive and multimedia application markets.
ARM offers an array of cores, architectural extensions,
microprocessors and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions,
all using a common software architecture.
This means that the
same software will run across the entire product range.
A significant architectural
advantage of ARM's technology is the proven industry
leading performance in low power consumption or MIPS
per Watt. At a low cost per MIPS of processing power,
ARM' s partners offer some of the most competitively
priced solutions in their class, enabling rapid growth
of new consumer products.
There is a growing
need for embedded engineers to understand and work with
the ARM Processor Family Architecture and software development
tools. GNU tools are significantly used under such developmental
environments. This 2-day workshop will enable participants
to understand ARM architectures, its 16-bit (Thumb)
& 32-bit ARM instruction sets and programming using
GNU tools. The course has an equal emphasis on classroom
lectures and hands-on sessions.
The
Faculty
C-DAC, Hyderabad is
a National Resource Centre of C-DAC for offering a postgraduate
diploma in embedded systems design. The workshop will
be conducted by C-DAC's technical members as well as
experts from the industry.
Targeted
Participants
The workshop is designed
for professionals from the industry, academia and R&D
institutes with the interest to learn and explore Advanced
RISC Machine (ARM) and it's powerful features.
Pre-requisites: Working
knowledge of micro processors/micro controllers and
C Programming under Linux environment.
