Background

The completion of The Human Genome Project and a myriad of related sequence projects saw an unprecedented increase in the use of Information Technology to manage the huge amount of Biological data available at our disposal. The main challenge in Computational Biology today is to decipher these pieces of data into blocks of information that will help to answer many mysteries of life and may predict the unforeseen future of mankind. A plethora of techniques/disciplines have emerged in the field of Life Sciences to help this cause. The emergence of Computational Biology has seen the deployment of High Performance Computing (HPC) in Biology, which has helped to sublime the boundaries between Information Technology and Life Sciences. HPC today is not only helping manage data in the range of peta scales, generated through high throughput techniques, but also analyze them in real time.

Scientific Programme

The technical sessions will comprise of invited talks from eminent professionals like Dr. Akash Ranjan, CDFD (Hyderabad), Dr. Andrew Lynn, JNU (Delhi), Prof. A.S.Kolaskar University of Pune (Pune), Prof.B.Jayaram IIT (Delhi), Dr. Dhananjay Bhattacharya, SINP (Kolkata), Prof. Durani, IIT (Mumbai), Dr. GPS Raghava, IMTECH (Chandigarh), Dr. K.Sekhar, IISc (Bangalore), Prof. P.Gautam, Anna University (Chennai), Prof. Yathindra, IBAB (Bangalore), and Dr. Yogesh Souche, NCCS (Pune) to name a few. The talks will address the challenges in the areas of genome analysis, comparative genomics, molecular modeling and algorithm development, followed by demos and presentations of bioinformatics resources, facilities and solutions developed at C-DAC. The symposium is targeted at students and researchers from academic institutes, universities and Bioinformatics industries
