A Practical Approach in Network Security

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
Hyderabad
in association with the
Department of Electronics and Information Technology
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Government of India

Course Objective

Information Technology (IT) has become the nerve centre for today's commercial transactions, government functioning, manufacturing, law & order, high-end research and other strategically important areas such as space and defence. The strategic value and privacy of the information flowing through the computer network of any organization makes it very important to ensure that this information is not stolen, tampered or illegally accessed. The security of the information and the information resources cannot be entrusted to technology alone. A hybrid solution integrating both the human and technology factor must be reached.

A large number of breaches can be attributed to the lack of awareness on the part of the user and ignorance of the security mechanisms and policies. These security breaches can be averted if networks and systems are configured with the basic security mechanisms that are built into the software and hardware components such as operating system, web server, router and so on.

C-DAC has planned a 5-day training programme to enable system administrators to configure their systems with adequate security. The course is designed to focus on both the conceptual and the practical aspects of the security features, and is being organized as part of the Department of Information Technology, Government of India supported project in Network Security.
