WORKSHOP ON HIGH
PERFORMANCE COMPUTING APPLICATIONS IN BIOINFORMATICS |
|
|

| |
AUGUST 3 - 4, 2000
The workshop aimed at creating
awareness on the use of high performance computers among
the biologists for their research. It incorporated a series
of lectures on high performance computing applications in Bioinformatics.
These covered a wide range of topics such as applications
of supercomputers in Bioinformatics, introduction to parallel
processing, use of genetic algorithms in multiple sequence
alignment, molecular dynamics applications to DNA & protein
structure, computer aided drug design, parallel AMBER &
CHARMM, use of genetic algorithm and ant colony algorithm
in structure optimization. The lecture sessions were followed
by the demonstration of applications on C-DAC's latest state-of-the-art
parallel supercomputer, PARAM
10000.
Experts from the relevant
fields from universities, academic institutes and industry
delivered talks in this high-tech area, besides the in-house
scientists at C-DAC. Thirty participants attended the workshop.
Selection of the participants was made on basis of a half-page
write-up on how the workshop would benefit their research
work.
