 Advanced Techniques in Geographic Information System (GIS)

AUGUST 7 - 11, 2000

This five-day workshop aimed to provide conceptual knowledge on GIS and hands-on training in the use of GIS software. The interactive sessions presented the applications of GIS technology with hands-on training and demonstrations in GIS, especially on SPANS GIS, to familiarize the participants with the emerging technologies. The pedagogy included lectures, discussions, tutorials, case studies and group work. Along with the training material, a CD-ROM of SPANS Observer was also given to the participants. Application of GIS in various development contexts was brought out through appropriate case studies. The course was designed for persons who had some familiarity with computers, but not necessarily with GIS.
