Frequently asked questions for this product are:

Q. Which Operating Systems does iLEAP support?

A. iLEAP supports Win 95/Win98/Win2000 Operating systems. iLeap is not fully compatible with Win XP and Win2003 OS for certain scripts. Please contact support.gist@cdac.in for more information.

Q. When we type certain conjuncts in Bengali in iLEAP a box appears?

A. This problem has been taken care of. Please visit the "Download" section on http://www.cdac.in and download "updates for Bengali"

Q. Certain conjuncts are not supported in Sanskrit on Windows 2000 OS?

A. iLEAP has a problem when Sanskrit is selected on the Win2000 operating system. A solution to this problem is still awaited.

Q. Sometimes editing of large files prepared in iLEAP is not possible. It shows certain errors and iLEAP hangs?

A. Though this problem is not consistent it does appear in certain systems with low memory. Please upgrade the system configuration. If required remove iLEAP from the system and reinstall the same. It is also advisable to store content in small files.

Q. While printing on a USB printer an error "Stack Overflo" pops up. Printing is not possible?

A.This problem has been observed on the Win 98 operating system, which is connected to a USB printer. The user can export the iLEAP file as RTF and print from MS Word or any editor, which supports the RTF format. There is no direct solution as of now. However, it does print properly when printed from the Win2000 Operating system.

Q. During installation, a message showing 'Invalid Serial Number Detected' is flashed.

A. This happens usually because of an invalid entry of serial number. Usually the confusion between the character 'O' and digit '0' is the cause. Care should be taken to see that the serial number should be entered in all caps with no spaces in between.

Q. Upon installation, the message 'Indian Language fonts are already in use by other application of Windows. You will have to close those applications and restart WINDOWS. Or LEAP Office already installed. Kindly remove the existing version and then install' is flashed.

A. If you observe such a message then you will have to restart WINDOWS as prompted and try installation once more. If there is any other Indian Language software, which is in the program startup group, you will have to remove it from the startup group and then install.

Sometime, it has been observed that the same message is flashed because of conflict with other vendors' TT Fonts and even C-DAC TT Fonts (if already there in the machine). Those TT Fonts are to be removed and restart and install again.

Q. After successful installation all the Languages are not available in the menu upon right click.

A. This usually happens because there are a large number of fonts installed on your machine. The Windows registry allows only 64-KB file for registration of fonts. In this case remove the existing version of iLEAP and try installing with 'Typical option'. This will install minimum fonts on your machine.

Q. It is not possible to take a 'Quick Tour' on Win3.x.

A. 'Quick Tour' requires Lotus ScreenCam and is designed only for Windows 95 and above.

Q. While using Phonetic Keyboard it is not possible to form some conjucts and vowels.

A. Phonetic English keyboard involves typing with some rules. The mapping table is giving in 'Help Menu', Typing Tutorials, and Phonetic English. Here if you learn the table properly, would be no problem typing with Phonetic English Keyboard.

Q. After highlighting a text and deleting it sometimes the cursor disappears.

A. Press shift and then click on the page wherever the mouse cursor is, the vertical cursor will appear.

Q. How can I send e-mail in Indian Languages?

A. *You need to have a MAPI compliant eMail client (such as MS Outlook, Eudora, etc.,) installed on your computer. Your computer needs to be connected to a modem. Here, I would love to see a small help on "How to configure Outlook/Eudora etc."

1. Create your document (English or multilingual).

2. Select the Send Mail item in the File menu.

A 'Send Mail' dialog box having the following options will be displayed.

a. LP2 file - This option will send your iLEAP document as an attachment in the mail. To be able to read your document, the recipient needs to have iLEAP or iLEAP Office installed on his/her computer. iLEAP Lite (Trial Copy) is available on the Internet for a free download at http://www.cdac.in

b. RTF document - If sent as a RTF document, fonts used in the document need to be installed on the recipient's computer. Fonts are also available on the Internet for a free download at http://www.cdac.in. Another facility provided by iLEAP is to send the font installation exe, along with the eMail itself. You can do this the first time for every recipient

c. HTML document - This also needs fonts on the recipient's PC as explained above.

d. ISCII document - This is for recipients who have a editor, wordprocessor or GIST card which can recognize ISCII format

e. BMP document (Monochrome). - Sends a monochrome Windows bitmap as an attachment. This is preferred for recipients who neither have fonts nor have iLEAP. They can just view the mail and cannot do any editing on it. This generally has a smaller size than the JPEG attachment. The first visible page contents are sent.

f. JPEG document (Monochrome) - Similar to the Windows BMP but is also supported on non-Windows platforms.

*Tip: A BMP document is smaller in size than a JPEG document.

3. Click on the Send button. The eMail client window will be opened. (This window and other subsequent windows or dialogs presented will be dependent on the eMail client software that has been installed on your computer). Your document will be sent as an attachment. (The format is dependent on the option that you select in Step 3 above). Enter the eMail address that you want to send to and other necessary options. Click OK.

Q. Can I design my web pages using iLEAP?

A. Yes, you can type the contents you want to upload on the net. In the file option go to 'Export' option and export it as HTML. Now you can upload this HTML document on your website. You can also give a link for font downloading from your website with proper acknowledgement to C-DAC.

Q. Is it possible for anybody to view this Indian Language document on the web?

A. For viewing Indian Language page, the resident font for that language should be resident on that machine. One can go to http://www.cdac.in for free downloading of Indian Language fonts. You can also give a link for font downloading from your website with proper acknowledgement to C-DAC.

Q. How many characters can be accommodated in a single keyboard shortcut?

A. About 2000 characters can be assigned to a single shortcut.

Q. Can I have Multiple Lines from a keyboard shortcut?

A. No.

Q. How many shortcuts can be entered?

A. About 1000

Q. Can I enter shortcuts in my office, make a file and distribute at client place (this is reqd if some client asks you to create the shortcuts for him)?

A. Yes, all shortcuts are added to the "Ofleap.sck" file which can be replaced in client machine.

Q. Is iLEAP available for network?

A. No, iLEAP network version is not available. iLEAP has been designed keeping the useage pf individual users inmind thus there is no provision for a network version. Though it can be installed in the machine individually in the network.

Q. I experience some problems with text flow. Every page, at times even a paragraph, become an independent text block. How to join them? If I add some more text to a block anywhere midway, will the remaining blocks adjust their location automatically?

A. In both the software, once the cursor appears on the page, a block appears and it will continue till you shift + click on the page elsewhere. Now these two become independent blocks. If you want to edit the previous block, you will have to move the lower block elsewhere to avoid overlapping. The movement of the block will be possible only in the block mode ('Edit' menu 'Frame').

Q. To make columns all over the book, what do I do?

A. In the 'Edit Menu' click 'Goto' and 'Master pages'. Type some text on the left as well as right master page. Then go to 'Layout' and 'Make Column' option. Give appropriate number. Stretch these columns to the entire page. Make similar settings to the left master page. Delete the text entered. Then again go to EDIT menu and click 'Document'. Now start typing the document in the column format.

Q. I have a problem to print Telugu script. The letters are getting merged. This problem is not there with other languages.

A. This is a problem encountered with some printer drivers. You are requested to change the printer driver of similar series and try printing. This will solve the problem.

Q. In iLEAP is it possible to work in Windows applications?

A. iLEAP is an independent word processor. It does not allow the user to work directly in other windows applications. However it is possible to export content created in iLEAP in RTF format. This RTF text can be opened in other windows based applications. In any case it is recommended to use Leap Office to work in other windows based applications as in addition to being an independent word processor it also allows you to use these fonts in other Windows based applications.

Q. After I start iLEAP, sometimes I get a message that "Indian Language fonts are not available etc." and inside iLEAP, only english is shown as the language. What do I do?

A. Uninstall iLEAP, make sure all the C-DAC fonts are removed from the machine (you can do this by selecting the fonts from the control panel font folder and hitting delete). Remove all iLEAP entries (if any) from Win.ini. Restart the machine and reinstall.

Q. Does iLEAP work with Windows Vista / Windows 7?

A. No, iLeap is not tested to work on Windows Vista/Windows 7. Please get in touch with info.gist@cdac.in for new Products.
