RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
In March 2001 the Centre
began practical scientific and organizational activities.
Research activity of the Centre was lead in the fields authorized
by the Centre Joint Committee.
At the end of March 2001
the delegation of Russian scientists visited C-DAC, Pune
and during that visit four contracts on scientific developments
were signed. The following themes, which correspond to themes
of ILTP projects, were chosen for the Joint work under the
four Contracts:
1. R & D in Computational
Fluid Dynamics

This project aimed to develop applied software for the
calculation of the characteristics of launch vehicles.
State of the art: finalized.
Main results:
- The method of 3-D block-structured grid
generation about complete vehicle configurations like
RLV developed.
- Efficient and accurate numerical algorithms
for the solution of compressible Euler, Navier-Stokes
and thin layer NS equations past RLV obtained.
- The concrete data are submitted as izolines
of pressure, heat transfer, friction coefficient on all
windward kpart and leeward surface RLV.
- The global pressure field characterized
by strong shock systems and interactions, both between
RLV components in the far field.
- The surface flow patterns reveal shock-induced
separations on the far-body region.
The code is ported on PARAM
10000 at C-DAC, Pune and RICCR ICAD, Moscow. The prolongation
or new contract in this field is suggested.
2. R & D in Atmospheric
Sciences

The aim of this project is parallelization and optimization
for PARAM 10000 Global Spectral Medium Range Forecast Models.
State of the art: finalized.
The codes are ported on
PARAM 10000 in C-DAC, Pune and RICCR-ICAD, Moscow. New project
in this field is suggested "Investigation of the processes
of interaction of atmosphere and ocean and development of
the circulation model of Indian Ocean.
3. R & D in Seismic
Data Processing

The goal of this project is development and theoretical
analysis on finite-difference schemes for solution of direct
problem in seismic modeling.
State of the art: finalized
Proposal (perspectives):
- Theoretical understanding and solver
development for direct seismic problem in 3D geometry
- Version for parallel computer
- Implementation of direct geophysical
modeling for different fundamental and applied problems
Main results: A set of
finite difference schemes was analyzed. The optimal approach
was suggested. Some test calculations were performed.
The code was ported on
PARAM 10000 at C-DAC and RICCR-ICAD.
4. R & D in Parallelizing
Compilers
The aim of this project is development of parallelizing
compiler for PARAM type
machine.
State of the art: Finalized.
Some version of such compiler
is developed and transferred to C-DAC (Bangalore). C-DAC
people have been trained on PARAM - 10000 , Moscow
All named projects were
carried out on Supercomputer PARAM 10000, manufactured by
C-DAC, Pune, India installed at Computer Center RICCR-ICAD
with the subsequent installation of software on PARAM 10000
at C-DAC, Pune.
Thus the work begun within
the framework of scientific ILTP Projects between C-DAC
and ICAD RAS has received the concrete applied continuation
within the framework of contracts between C-DAC and RICCR,
i.e. the first experience of linking the two components
of a scientific product creation was received: scientific
and managing-commercial.
