Networking
& Internet Software Group (NISG) at C-DAC Pune,
was established in 1997 with the charter to design,
develop and deliver futuristic Networking of Internet
Technologies. In line with this charter, since its inception,
NISG has been looking into emerging Networking &
Internet areas.
Out
of many areas currently pursued by NISG, few to be named
are Network Security and 802.11 Wireless Networks also
called as Wi-Fi
Networks.
In
the Network Security, NISG has been working since 1999
and so far has developed two indigenous products. These
are C-VPN in the area of Virtual Private Networking
and C-Crypto
in the area of Cryptography. Both these products are
based on international standards and are interoperable
with products from other vendors.
In
802.11 Wireless Networking, NISG is working for quite
some time and presently is in the process of setting
up of the Centre of Excellence for Wi-Fi Technologies.
NISG
is also actively looking into other emerging areas of
national and strategic importance.
NISG
has developed institutional linkages with academic and
industry organizations in India and abroad. In past,
NISG collaborated with Indian Institute of Science Bangalore,
India and Cradle Technologies, USA. Presently, NISG
is collaborating with Indian Institute of Technology,
Kanpur, India; Pronto Networks, USA & State University
of New York at Stony Brook, USA.

In line
with the charter, NISG is working in the
area of wireless networking with specific
focus on the 802.11 wireless networks, also
called Wi-Fi networks. A Centre of Excellence
for Wi-Fi Technologies is therefore proposed
to be set up at C-DAC, Pune to encompass
the activities related to Wi-Fi.

C-DAC's
Crypto (C-Crypto)
is a cryptographic product which supports
industry standard cryptographic algorithms
recognized and approved by cryptographic
product certification agencies such as International
Computer Security Association (ICSA). It
follows international standards such as
Public Key Cryptographic Standard (PKCS),
Federal Information Processing Standards
Publication (FIPS) used in security products
supplied by vendor's abroad. C-Crypto also
supports algorithms from emerging fields
of cryptography such as elliptic curve cryptography.

NISG has
setup state-of-the-art Network Simulation
Lab "NetSimLab" to cater to the
network simulation needs of wired &
wireless networking activities of NISG.
NetSimLab has a stable & well-managed
network simulation environment with industry
standard network simulation tools and adequate
computational resources. Vision of NetSimLab
is to improve the design, operation and
management of communication networks through
simulation. Our Network Simulation Lab has
expertise in most of the widely used network
simulators including OPNET
