New Delhi, April 28, 200
The Centre for Development
of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
announced four new development products at the ELITEX (Electronics
& Information Technology Exposition) 2003 Exhibition-cum-Seminar
being held during April 28-29, 2003 at India Habitat Centre,
New Delhi under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications
and Information Technology, Govt. of India. The products
were launched by the Hon'ble Minister of Disinvestment and
Communications & Information Technology in the presence
of Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government
of India and Shri. Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Secretary, Department
of Information Technology. The four products are the first
to be launched following the recent merger of the erstwhile
scientific societies ER&DCI, CEDTI (Mohali) and NCST of the Department of Information Technology (DIT), with
C-DAC. The products being launched are C-Crypto, Nashir,
D-View and the Mobile Digital Library.
C-DAC's Crypto (C-Crypto)
- a cryptographic software for network security, supports
features of confidentiality, authentication, integrity and
non-repudiation in a virtual private network, as well as
offers multiplatform support on Linux and Windows. It conforms
to industry standard cryptographic algorithms and can be
integrated with other proprietary algorithms. The software
is also of special relevance to the OEMs as it can be integrated
into their products and solutions.
C-DAC's Nashir - a word processing and publishing software for Urdu, Sindhi
and Kashmiri caters to the scripts written from right to
left, and is packed with features like Urdu spell checker,
Hindi-Urdu transliteration, table and column layouts, support
for Nastaliq and Naskh scripts with calligraphic fonts,
keyboard shortcuts, search and replace, text formatting
tools and support for UNICODE. Nashir's versatility lies
in the fact that it allows use of multiple languages simultaneously,
that is one can use Urdu, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Arabic and English
text, all in one text frame. It also supports object linking
and embedding (OLE).
Another product being
launched at ELITEX is the D-View,
a digital set top box developed indigenously at C-DAC. With
the Conditional Access System (CAS) becoming mandatory at
the four metros of the country from 14th July onwards, it
couldn't have come at a better time. The D-View enables
viewers to access a wide range of services from Analog and
Digital Television, Internet, Video on Demand and VOIP by
decoding the free to air as well as scrambled signals from
the three modes of transmission, viz. terrestrial, satellite
and cable.
To enable students
and other beneficiaries across a large geographic region
to have access to books of their interest, C-DAC is also
launching a Mobile
Digital Library. The library is equipped with a V-SAT
and a PC desktop, with searching and indexing capability
and a printing facility. The mobile library is connected
to a digital library server at the C-DAC facility at Noida,
which in turn allows users access to the web, and also connectivity
to other digital libraries.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri.
R.K. Arora, Former Executive Director, C-DAC, said that the
four new products "exemplifies C-DAC'S commitment to
the society, by following a focused and well-defined path
towards the development of advanced information technology
to address the country's needs".
Also on display,
are a range of products showcasing the R&D accomplishments of C-DAC as well as its forays into the
different segments of Information Technology such as multilingual
technologies, embedded
systems and broadband, image processing and multimedia, GIS applications, eGovernance and healthcare solutions.
