C-DAC's ACTS to use Xilinx tools as part of the VLSI training

Pune, June 24, 2003

The Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS) of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) will use software tools from Xilinx, a worldwide leader of programmable logic solutions. Under the initiative, Xilinx, having it's Asia Pacific Headquarters in Hong Kong would be offering Xilinx tools, free of cost, to C-DAC's ACTS for facilitating the VLSI training for its students. The initiative is a part of Xilinx's University Program.

C-DAC's ACTS association with Xilinx will enable it to effectively introduce to its students the programmable logic design flow for today's Platform FPGAs with Embedded Processors and Multi-Gigabit Transceivers. Programmable logic, today, is the fastest growing segment in the semiconductor industry. Xilinx solutions allow a faster, easier, and more cost-effective development cycle for high-performance systems, as well as for high-volume consumer and automotive applications.

Hailing the association as a positive move, Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC, said, "We see a greatly increased design activity in the industry using Programmable Logic. Xilinx's position as a market leader in the Programmable Logic industry, worldwide, will help us provide a platform to higher layers of learning in this sector. We believe that associations of this kind will help provide a better edge to Indian professionals to move into higher echelons of the IT hardware sector."

"Recognized for their high standards, India's engineers have had a profound impact on the world's electronics industry," said David Loftus, Managing Director at Xilinx Asia Pacific. "We're pleased to support the training and education of new electronics engineering talent in India through this association with C-DAC. We believe our cooperation will have a strong impact on the local design community" he added.

C-DAC is primarily an R&D institution involved in the design, development and deployment of advanced Information Technology (IT) based solutions.

C-DAC's Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS) is dedicated to creating high quality manpower for the IT industry as well as C-DAC by designing and delivering specialized courses in the different domains of IT. The courses are offered through a network of Training Centres in India. A very large number of students pass out every year from these courses to join many Multinational and Premier Indian IT companies, and many choosing to become successful entrepreneurs as well. C-DAC's ACTS offers full time post-graduate program, Diploma in VLSI Design of 24 weeks duration through 9 centres across India. The course contains modules on Advanced Digital Design, System Architectures, High Level Design Methodology which includes Designing with HDLs, HDL simulation and synthesis, Programmable Logic implementation, ASIC design issues, CMOS VLSI Design and an industry standard project.

CG-CoreEL Programmable Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the representative company for Xilinx in India along with the Xilinx distributors; Insight-Memec played a key role in building this partnership.
