   C-DAC Bags Maharashtra IT Award  
 

Pune, August 19, 2004

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has been selected for the Maharashtra IT Award as a meritorious IT enterprise in the Category IT R&D by the Government of Maharashtra. The Award will be presented by Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra on August 20, 2004. Shri. S. Ramakrishnan, Former Director General,
C-DAC will receive the award.

C-DAC has been conferred the award for its initiatives towards IT enabling the various organizations/departments in the state of Maharashtra, which includes the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat (MLS), Public Works Department (PWD), Department of Stamps and Registration (IGR), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra State
Seeds Corporation Limited (MSSCL), Department of Archives, Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) and so on. These initiatives have also generated a number of employment opportunities in the state through the deployment of the solutions in a Public-Private-Partnership mode. C-DAC was selected by a distinguished jury headed by Maharashtra
Bhushan and Padmashri, Dr.Vijay Bhatkar.

The day also marks the celebration of the Maharashtra IT Day as per the Government of Maharashtra's IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) Policy 2003.

The Maharashtra IT Awards have been constituted by the Government of Maharashtra to recognize innovative IT and ITES companies from Maharashtra, who have made the state proud, based on their performance in the financial years 2001-2004. The Awards aim at promoting entrepreneurship in the IT Industry within the State and recognizing and appreciating outstanding performance in IT activities. It also seeks to encourage rapid spread of the use of IT in society and as a means of
generating employment opportunities. Besides the IT R&D category, the Maharashtra IT Awards has constituted five more categories for the awards, namely IT Hardware, IT Software, IT Enabled Services, IT Human Resource Development and IT Infrastructure. Applications had been invited from IT and ITES companies from all across the state of Maharashtra for the
above categories.

Established in March 1988, as a Scientific Society of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (formerly the Department of Electronics), Government of India, C-DAC, is primarily an R&D institution involved in the design, development and deployment of electronics and advanced Information Technology (IT) products and solutions.

C-DAC as a specialized institution of Research and Development in electronics and Information Technology stands at the helm of the eGovernance revolution in the country. The thrust of C-DACs efforts in the area of eGovernance has resulted in improved transparency, speedy information dissemination, higher administrative efficiency and improved public services in sectors including transportation, education, power, health, water, security and the state administration and municipal services. C-DACs revenue systems for the state of Maharashtra (SARITA) and Karnataka (KAVERI) have been the recipients of the Gold Icon and Gold Medal at the 7th and 8th National eGovernance Conference respectively.

The development efforts of C-DAC also hold a unique perspective for the nation in terms of its reach via the enabling of local language access to systems.
