C-DAC's plan for commercial marketing arm

Dated, December 14, 2008
The Hindu - BusinessLine

Efforts by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to set up a separate commercial entity to give a marketing thrust to its indigenous technology and products are gaining momentum.

C-DAC's perseverance over the years to create the commercial entity has recently got the nod from its Governing Council. "It is in discussions with the Central Government to get the final okay and give shape to the commercial and marketing arm," according to Mr. S. Ramakrishnan, its Former Director-General.

Having expanded in terms of its R&D centres, product diversity and research areas in the past decade, C-DAC has a good number of technologies and products with commercial potential. "A separate entity to take up the challenge in the competitive market was useful," Mr. Ramakrishnan told Business Line here.

At present, C-DAC has a business division, which provides marketing, customer support, consultancy and training. The revenues generated through this are ploughed back into R&D projects and funding infrastructure.
