For the first time,
India will play host to the 6th International Conference/
Exhibition on High Performance Computing (HPC) in Asia
Pacific Region: HPC
Asia 2002.
The four-day meet is
being organized by the Centre for Development of Advanced
Computing (C-DAC)
and Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACS).
It will be held from December 16 at Leela Palace, Hotel,
in which over 2,000 delegates are expected to take part
in it.
The conference is spread
over 8,000 sq.ft. of space. ADCOM is the annual International
Conference of the Advanced Computing and Communications
Society of India.
Talking to newsmen
here on Thursday, C-DAC Executive Director and co-Chair
National Advisory Committee, Shri. R.K. Arora said.
"HPC Asia is held once in every 18 months in Asia
Pacific region. This time, it is a joint event of two
international conferences: HPC Asia and ADCOM. For the
first time India is playing the host. The previous conferences
were held at Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, China and Australia."
HPC Asia will emphasize
trends in high performance computing and communication
technologies, systems and scientific, engineering and
commercial applications.
"The objective
here is to popularize high performance computing in
Asia Pacific region and tackle scientific, engineering
and computer application for socio economic growth,"
he said.
C-DAC Director and
Conference Chair, Dr. S.C. Purohit said that this conference
is held at a time when the software and electronics
exports from India are increasing.
