The Centre for Development
of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
is planning to unveil by year-end the next generation PARAM series supercomputers capable of handling more powerful
applications.
"We are planning
a new system by the year-end which would have new software
and hardware capabilities," Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive
Director of C-DAC, told PTI here. The system would be
"more powerful" and have software that is
user-friendly and hardware that can support higher speed,
he pointed out.
Shri. Arora said the
system would have powerful features which would support
applications such as Bioinformatics, Climate
Modeling and also Seismic
Data Processing for oil exploration.
"It would essentially
be the next generation of PARAM series," he said
adding the new system was yet to be named. PARAM 10000
is one of the latest and fastest in the series of PARAM
range of supercomputers developed by C-DAC.
C-DAC has also recently
entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
Frontline Technologies Lifesciences Group, Hyderabad,
for offering its supercomputing expertise to the latter,
he said adding the tie-up involved work on sequencing
and genomic data and genetic algorithms.
"We will provide
them with software and hardware resources," he
added.
The organization had
earlier identified the emerging Bioinformatics segment
as an area of future growth, and subsequently decided
to address three areas of Bioinformatics - sequencing
of genome, molecular modeling and genetic algorithms.
