C-DAC's Language technology used extensively in netjaal.com

Pune, April 4, 2000

The launch of netjaal.com by Netcom, the first Hindi Portal based on C-DAC's GIST technology at the hands of Prof. Murli Manohar Joshi, Hon'ble Minister for Human Resource Development and Science & Technology, saw Hindi and three other Indian languages go international.

These three languages are Punjabi, Gujarati and Marathi, Bangla, and four South Indian languages are proposed to be introduced shortly. netjaal.com also incorporates the first Hindi search engine - Talaash developed by C-DAC. Talaash allows a user to search for any site using Hindi. This intelligent search engine would read Hindi and provide the information sought. A brief synopsis of the site is also available in Hindi. netjaal.com also offers a unique eMail facility in Hindi based on C-DAC's GIST technology. Speaking on the occasion, Shri R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC said "We are pleased that the C-DAC Search Engine and GIST MAIL are used to complement the voluminous effort made by Netcom in providing Indian content which is the need of the hour for increasing the internet traffic from West to East".
