PARAM 10000 installed at BITS -Pilani & BIT-Ranchi

Pune, May 20, 2000

As part of the ongoing programme to install PARAM 10000 at 12 premier academic institutes in the country, C-DAC installed the PARAM 10000 at the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) Pilani and Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Ranchi recently.

The project, sponsored by the Department of Information Technology, aims at developing a team of research scientists at various levels so as to re-enforce the national effort for application software development, which will help industry to take advantage of supercomputing technology.

The program also aims at attracting the student community to visualize the importance of such activities and contribute towards innovative ideas related to several aspects of numerical simulations.

About 23 projects have been identified in the broad areas of science and engineering at these institutes and the principal investigators were trained by a 10-member team from C-DAC to use the 6.4 GigaFlop power PARAM 10000 system configuration.

The other premier institutes covered under this programme include IISc Bangalore, IIT Mumbai, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, University of Roorkee, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC) Allahabad, IIT Kharagpur and Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) Surathkal.
