A workshop on "Design and Development of Instructional New Media Material" held at C-DAC's Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS) on April 16, 2001 was inaugurated by Prof. Ashok Kolaskar, Vice Chancellor, University of Pune. Also present were, Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC, Prof. Ram Takawale, Professor Emeritus, University of Pune and the local facilitator of the workshop, and Mr. Krishna Alluri, Project Coordinator of the Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada.

Twenty participants from various educational and research institutions such as Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik, Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, Bioinformatics Centre, University of Pune, and C-DAC's Advanced Computing Training School are participating in the workshop. The workshop concluded on May 2, 2001.

The workshop aimed at training course teachers and IT experts in the principles and techniques used to create highly interactive and effective computer based training (CBT) and web based training (WBT) material. There will be a focus on the instructional design process which includes task analysis, learner analysis, events of instruction, writing objectives, designing interactivity, and questions, instructional strategies, testing, media selection, screen design, and user interface design. Participants will also be developing interactive CBT or WBT material on various subjects.

he workshop is being lead by Mr. Peter Fenrich, Instructional New Media Designer Group for Advanced Information Technology Centre, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Vancouver, Canada. Mr. Fenrich has been developing CBT and WBT material for more than 17 years and has published a book "Practical Guidelines for Creating Instructional Multimedia Applications". He has designed and conducted several courses on this subject.
