The
Scientific and Engineering Computing Group (SECG)
of C-DAC organized a series of one-day workshops in the areas
of Computational Atmospheric Sciences, Computational
Fluid Dynamics and Seismic
Data Processing during March 5-7, 2002.
Participants
from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram,
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Dehra Dun, Indian Institute
of Technology, Bombay, Central Water and Power Resource
Station, Pune, University of Pune and Indian Institute
of Tropical Metrology, Pune attended the workshop. Dr.
J. Venkatratnam, Mr. Chetan Kumar and Dr. Y. Sudhakar,
were the workshop coordinators.
C-DAC collaborates
with several research organizations and industries to
develop software using the PARAM series of computing
systems, in order to augment the capabilities of research
scientists to tackle issues of national importance.
The Institute
of Computer Aided Design (ICAD), Moscow is one of the
active users of PARAM system.
The workshops
were held to review the progress of the research activities
initiated on the, PARAM
10000, which was installed at the Russian Indian
Centre for Advanced Computing Research (RICCR), Moscow
in May 2000. The project sponsored by the Russian Academy
of Sciences (RAS) and Department of Science and Technology
(DST), Government of India involves exchange visits
of the scientists between Russia and India. Conforming
to this arrangement a Russian team of five scientist's
lead by Dr. Yu. D. Shevelev and including Dr. V.L. Sakharao,
Dr. V.G. Gromov, Dr. V.N. Glukhov and Dr. M.N. Antonenko
visited C-DAC during February 25 - March 09, 2002 to
exchange information on the progress of the project.
The software
developed by the Russian team with C-DAC scientists
was also demonstrated on PARAM 10000 at National PARAM
Super Computing Facility (NPSF),
Pune.
