of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
Pune conducted a weeklong training workshop on Geoinformatics
for Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) officials during
February 25 - March 02, 2002.
As many as twenty
participants from the Bangalore, Ghaziabad, and Chennai
centres of BEL attended the workshop, which comprised
of lectures, hands-on sessions, discussions and case
studies aimed at familiarizing the participants with
the Geomatics technologies like GIS, Remote Sensing and Cartography.
Hands-on training and demonstrations were imparted on
the PCI software, Geomatica.
Inaugurating
the workshop, Shri R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC
laid emphasis on the purpose and benefits of conducting
such training workshops. He added that there is a growing
requirement for Geomatics activities in India, particularly
in the Defence sector and that C-DAC has the infrastructure
and expertise to meet this demand.
Dr. Ashok Kaushal,
Program Coordinator, Geomatics Group, C-DAC, presented
an overview of Geomatics activities and the latest trends
in Geomatics technology.
C-DAC is involved
in geomatics activities for more than a decade. The
Groups activities include developing comprehensive geomatics
solutions for government and corporate sectors. It has
conducted several national symposia and training workshops
in GIS and Remote Sensing.
