   C-DAC announces free Indian Language software scheme for Internet subscribers

iLEAP, the most popular Indian language word processor, was launched by C-DAC in September 1998 and is available in the market for just Rs. 2000/-. This software is mostly sold through eCommerce, from the outlets in Singapore and USA for US$ 50/-.

Since its launch, iLEAP-Lite, the demo version which is available free of cost on C-DAC web site (http://www.cdac.org.in) has recorded an average download of 150 per day. By the end of February 1999, this download figure has touched 25,000. Among them, US records for 33%, India 26%, Singapore 9%, UK, Germany, Australia, UAE and Netherlands 3% each and other countries 17%. It is learnt that this software is very popular among the NRI's worldwide.

What is iLEAP?

'iLEAP Ver 2.0' is an Intelligent, Internet ready, Indian language word processing software, capable of sending eMail and creating web pages. iLEAP is even more user friendly than the previous version. Features such as provision to send multilingual eMail, online keyboard, multilingual spell checker, language sensitive multilingual editor and rolling pallet are the new additions. In fact, 'iLEAP' has retained all the facilities of previous version such as the collection of cliparts, symbols and borders, document templates, search and replace, document import - export facility, navigation pallet, aesthetic fonts for Indian languages. The languages supported in this software package are Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu with 10 fonts of each language.

GIST Technology C-DAC is the national initiative to develop supercomputers is a society of Department of Electronics (DoE), Government of India. GIST (Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology), the National Language Mission group of C-DAC is the pioneer in development of Indian language computing solutions. Today, GIST provides Indian language solutions and support for all kinds of operating systems such as DOS, WINDOWS 3.x/9x and NT, NetWare, Mac, UNIX etc., in the form of hardware, software and video-work solutions. For over a decade GIST has developed solutions for major applications of national importance such as Land Records Project, Indian Language Subtitling of Films, Indian Heritage content on Internet, Voter ID-Card Project, Indian Language Data Communication on NIC Net and NII (National Information Infrastructure).
