LONDON: The world
Hindi Conference asked India's political leaders and
diplomats to ensure that Hindi was recognized as one
of the official languages of the United Nations.
The conference urged
the government of India to ensure that Hindi was developed
as a language friendly to computers and communications
and to developments and education in science and technology.
India's Centre for Development of Advanced Computing
(C-DAC)
demonstrated on this occasion its successful Indian
language software products. This pioneering initiative
paved the way for making Hindi and other Indian languages
suitable for the Internet.
This demonstration
was in tune with the theme of the conference, "Hindi
and the future generations," since without this work
by C-DAC, Hindi and other languages would have been
lost to them. This software eliminates language barriers
and brings the benefit of computers to the common man,
not conversant with English. These languages can now
be used for all applications on a wide range of platforms.
The former Hon'ble
Minister for External Affairs Smt. Vasundhara Raje Scindia
inaugurated the conference.
