Prof. Suraj Bhan Singh, Advisor in C-DAC, has received the Atmaram Award from the Hon'ble President of India Shri. K.R. Narayanan for his Outstanding Contribution to Language Technology and Technical Writing in Indian Languages on 19th May 2000 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. An eminent computational linguist and educationist of national and international repute, Prof. Singh has been closely associated with the C-DAC's Applied Artificial Intelligence Group in various projects like MANTRA (Machine assisted Translation Tool) and LILA (Learn Indian Languages through Artificial Intelligence) Hindi tutoring Software series, and various other computational linguistic programs.

The President of India honors a few eminent scholars every year for their outstanding contribution in various fields of Hindi language and literature on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The award is presented by him in the Rashtrapati Bhavan along with a plaque, a shawl and a cash award.
