iLEAP,
developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced
Computing (C-DAC),
was recently adjudged the 'Best Language Software' by
Smart Computing (formerly CHIP Hindi magazine).
The interface of iLEAP
is similar to Windows applications and is easier to
use compared to other packages under test. It facilitates
annotations while inserting graphics. iLEAP supports Inscript,
phonetic and typewriter keyboard layouts besides providing
multilingual support for 13 Indian languages with 10
fonts per language. iLEAP offers the facility of multiple
language spell checks in a single go. Features like
easy interface, ability to work in 13 languages, making
columns, find and replace utilities, paragraph styles
etc., create a unique place for iLEAP among a range
of similar software.
Though iLEAP does not
support MDI, it is possible to use formatting in the
find-and-replace utility. It conveniently handles file
formats like BMP, WMF, Word Star, Akshar etc. Another
feature of iLEAP is that it enables keyboard shortcuts
similar to the Autocorrect feature of MS Word.
LEAP has been judged
to be the best as far as overall functionality is concerned.
