A
one-week workshop on Geoinformatics organized by C-DAC
was inaugurated by Dr. K.S. Misra, Director, Geological
Survey of India on Aug 6. Dr. Misra presented an overview
of applications of Geomatics in the field of water resources, geology, archeology,
oil & natural gas. The workshop aimed at providing conceptual
knowledge on GIS and related fields, and hands-on training
on the use of GIS software.
Speaking on the occasion,
Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC, emphasized
on the utility of conducting such workshops in order
to meet the growing demand of Geomatics activities in
India. He opined that Geomatics, being multi-disciplinary
in nature, has a vast potential in both the government
and the private sector.
Dr. Ashok Kaushal,
Head, Geomatics Group, C-DAC, welcomed the guests. Presenting
an overview on Geomatics, he commented on the impact
of recent advances in GIS and the increasing role of
satellite imagery in map updation and GIS applications.
Dr. Sanjay Kadam proposed
the vote of thanks.
The workshop comprised
lectures, tutorials, discussions and case studies aimed
at familiarizing participants with emerging technologies.
Hands-on training and demonstrations were imparted on
PCI software (Geomatica, SPANS, EASI/PACE).
