   C-DAC organizes Workshop on "XML in eLearning"

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Hyderabad in association with the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India is organizing a five-day workshop, "XML (Extended Markup Language) in eLearning" during August 05 - 09, 2002 at C-DAC, Hyderabad.

XML is fast emerging as the standard data format for Internet Technology. It provides a standard way to tag or mark up information, thereby making it easy to read and exchange content hosted on the Internet. XML also gives the flexibility to create customizable user interface architecture. It helps organization as an open data descriptor that can be processed on any software system.

C-DAC's 'XML in eLearning' workshop is targeted at software developers who wish to enhance their understanding of the powerful XML programming concepts found in XSL-Transformations, Xpath expressions, XML Document Object Model (DOM), Simple API for XML (SAX), XML validation using DTDs, XML Editors and use of XML in eLearning.

The workshop provides hands-on exposure on XML and will benefit content creators wishing to develop Internet content using XML. It also gives exposure to eLearning standards, which are based on XML. Right from the introduction of XML, the workshop will cover issues related to XML and its application, with a distinct focus on eLearning. Case Studies in XML will also be presented and discussed.

According to Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC, "eLearning is fast acquiring a significant position in the education and business arena. The Extended Markup Language (XML) is a key tool in delivering eLearning solutions & services. Because of its both, relative simplicity and sophistication, XML can be widely used to create structured content to achieve different educational deliverables."

C-DAC, the trailblazers in High Performance Computing & Communications, Multilingual and Multimedia Technologies and Advanced Computing Training has, as part of its diverse research initiatives taken up development in eLearning and eLearning technologies (ELELTECH), the program supported by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology at C-DAC Hyderabad.
