The Economic Times

CENTRE for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the developer of India's indigenous supercomputer PARAM, is planning to invest up to Rs. 25 crore in the next one year on research and development (R & D) activities. "We expect to invest between Rs. 20 crore and Rs. 25 crore on research and development work. More than half of this amount would be supported by the government," C-DAC, Executive Director, Shri. R.K. Arora told PTI. Shri. Arora said that C-DAC expected to clock Rs. 85 crore by March 31, 2003 as compared to Rs. 70 crore as on March 31, 2002. It is pertinent to mention here that C-DAC has recently completed development of PARAM Padma supercomputer which has the capability to perform one trillion calculations per second. "We have completed development work on PARAM Padma, which is more powerful than the current PARAM 10000. We are now working on more applications. The new supercomputer which is showcased in PARAM facility Bangalore would be launched soon," he said. With this, India would enter the Tera Flop league of nations and would be amongst the few to have developed Tera Flop system (having the ability to perform one trillion calculations per second) indigenously.
