A PARAM
10000 with a 6.4 Gflops peak computing power was
installed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),
Mumbai recently. This installation was a part of the
ongoing joint collaborative program sponsored by the
Department of Information Technology and will be used
by researchers and faculty members of the Institute
in the broad areas of science and technology. At least
eight typical applications are being identified and
the Principal Investigators with their team attended
the workshop conducted by C-DAC during November 30 -
December 02, 2000 at the site. The workshop was attended
by a large number of prospective users and a close interaction
with them through hands-on sessions was initiated.
Prof. Tarun Kant, Head,
Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Kannan Moudgalya,
Chemical Engineering Department and Prof. Dipan K. Ghosh,
Head, Computer Centre, IIT Mumbai, organized the interaction.
This is the seventh
of the twelve Premier Institutes identified under this
project, which will be equipped with PARAM 10000. The
other premier institutes are IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur,
IIT-Chennai, IIT-Kharagpur and Karnataka Regional Engineering
College, Surathkal.
