   C-DAC participates in HPC Asia 2001

C-DAC, participated in the High Performance Computing Conference: HPC Asia/Pacific 2001, held at Gold Coast, Australia, from September 24-28, 2001. As many as 16 Asian countries, experts from Europe and USA, in addition to many private industries who deal in high performance computing hardware and software, attended the conference.

HPC Asia 2001 was jointly hosted by the Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing (APAC) and the Queensland Parallel Supercomputing Foundation (QPSF).

C-DAC, a Research Exhibitor in the conference, displayed all its products/activities related to High Performance Computing. The conference also offered C-DAC a platform to discuss in detail about its activities and mission objectives with the experts of High Performance Computing, Scientific Visualization, Network, Multidisciplinary Applications, and Numerical Simulation of grand challenge problems.

Dr. S.C. Purohit, Dr. V.C.V. Rao and Shri. B.P. Dash represented C-DAC. Dr. Purohit chaired a session on "Materials Simulation" and also participated in a panel discussion entitled 'Investment in High Performance Computing and Communication' along with the panelists Bill Blake (Compaq), Tony Hey (University of Southampton), Dr. Richard Hirsh (National Science Foundation, USA) and Prof. Robin Stanton (Australian National University). Dr. V.C.V. Rao conducted tutorials on 'Optimizing Performance of Parallel Programmes' and presented a research paper. Shri. B.P. Dash interacted with the computer vendors and software developers and provided the information regarding C-DAC's business activities and the projects being continued within and outside India.

On the concluding day of the conference Dr. Purohit gave a presentation on technological challenges and tasks ahead to optimize resources for reinforcing frontier research.

C-DAC will host the Sixth International Conference/Exhibition, HPC Asia 2002 at Bangalore, India. This conference will cover various aspects of High Performance Computing including Mobile and Meta Computing, Emerging Paradigms, Process Migration, Multimedia Applications and Computational Sciences & Technologies. An Exhibition will also be organized.
