Performance Computing Conference: HPC Asia/Pacific
2001, held at Gold Coast, Australia, from September
24-28, 2001. As many as 16 Asian countries, experts
from Europe and USA, in addition to many private industries
who deal in high performance computing hardware and
software, attended the conference.
HPC Asia 2001
was jointly hosted by the Australian Partnership for
Advanced Computing (APAC) and the Queensland Parallel
Supercomputing Foundation (QPSF).
C-DAC, a Research
Exhibitor in the conference, displayed all its products/activities
related to High Performance Computing. The conference
also offered C-DAC a platform to discuss in detail about
its activities and mission objectives with the experts
of High Performance Computing, Scientific Visualization,
Network, Multidisciplinary Applications, and Numerical
Simulation of grand challenge problems.
Dr. S.C. Purohit,
Dr. V.C.V. Rao and Shri. B.P. Dash represented C-DAC.
Dr. Purohit chaired a session on "Materials Simulation"
and also participated in a panel discussion entitled
'Investment in High Performance Computing and Communication'
along with the panelists Bill Blake (Compaq), Tony Hey
(University of Southampton), Dr. Richard Hirsh (National
Science Foundation, USA) and Prof. Robin Stanton (Australian
National University). Dr. V.C.V. Rao conducted tutorials
on 'Optimizing Performance of Parallel Programmes' and
presented a research paper. Shri. B.P. Dash interacted
with the computer vendors and software developers and
provided the information regarding C-DAC's business
activities and the projects being continued within and
outside India.
On the concluding
day of the conference Dr. Purohit gave a presentation
