   PARAM 10000 installed at IIT, Kharagpur

C-DAC's PARAM 10000 was installed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, as per the joint Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur recently. This, 6.4 Gflops peak performance system will be utilized for undertaking scientific & engineering projects by the faculty and students of IIT, Kharagpur.

A workshop, inaugurated by Prof. Amitav Ghosh, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur was conducted by C-DAC from November 7-9, 2001. He appreciated the initiatives taken for projects in diverse areas including Atmospheric Sciences, Cosmology, Finite Element Method, Stochastic Process, Fluid Mechanics and Environmental Sciences.

IIT, Kharagpur, is the last of the twelve premier institutes, which is equipped with PARAM 10000. The other premier institutes being, Indian Institutes of Technology - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Guwahati, Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad, Karanataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal and University of Roorkee, Roorkee. As many as, 130 research projects will be undertaken, using the PARAM 10000. The Scientific and Engineering Computing Group (SECG) of C-DAC will be associated with the faculty and research scientists of these premier institutes in the broad areas of science and technology.

This project is sponsored by the Department of Information Technology and is endorsed by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
