Centre
for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)
today handed over two PC desktop computers to the members
of the Navjeevan Society. In keeping with the commitment
made by Shri. R.K. Arora, Executive Director, C-DAC earlier in
the year, the computers were handed over at a simple
ceremony organized at the Yerwada Central Jail on October
08, 2002.
Navjeevan Mandal is
an NGO involved in the training and rehabilitation of
the inmates of Yerwada Central Jail by imparting training
in the fundamentals of Computing with the aim of equipping
them with basic skills.
Speaking on the occasion,
Shri. R.K. Arora exhorted the jail inmates to make the
best use of the opportunity being provided. Expressing
his satisfaction on the initiative taken by the members
of Navjeevan Mandal, Shri. Arora added 'It is heartening
to note that even within the walls of the jail, efforts
are being made by the prison authorities and Navjeevan
Mandal to equip inmates with Information Technology
and basic computing skills'.
Shri. Ravindra Surve,
Former Commissioner PCMC and Chairman, Navjeevan Mandal
thanked C-DAC for the computers. 'This gesture of C-DAC
is indeed a boon, which would enable the inmates to
acquire hands on training on computers, which was hitherto
not possible'.
The program was attended
by Shri. R.M. Suryavanshi, Superintendent, Yerwada Central
Jail, Shri. Ravindra Surve, Former Commissioner PCMC
and Chairman, Navjeevan Mandal, Shri. B.R. Misar, Former
DGP Maharashtra and Former Chairman, Navjeevan Mandal,
Shri. S.A. Ranade, Secretary, Navjeevan Mandal amongst
others.
