The
Hon'ble Minister of Communications and Information Technology,
Shri. Pramod Mahajan, visited C-DAC on December 12,
1999 to chair its Governing Council Meeting. C-DAC which
is a Scientific Society under the Department of Information
Technology held its Governing Council Meeting here today.
The Chairman of the Governing Council is the Hon'ble
Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
On the occasion, the
Hon'ble Minister unveiled C-DAC's Vision for the New
Millennium: "To emerge as the premier R&D institution
for the design, development and deployment of world
class IT solutions for economic and human advancement."
In his message to the members of C-DAC, Shri. Pramod
Mahajan said that he was delighted that C-DAC had chartered
its vision into the new millennium. "This I see is not
merely as a statement but a promise and an action agenda
collectively prepared by all its members".
He also expressed happiness
that C-DAC had translated this vision into a mission
statement reflecting its desire and the goal it wishes
to achieve in the various activities in the area of
IT in the decade of the coming millennium.
Shri.
Pramod Mahajan observed that C-DAC has come a long way
in over a decade of its existence, rising from an R&D
Institution to develop and commercialize its products,
technologies and solutions in practically every major
area of Information Technology. "Whether it is in the
area of Supercomputing, Multilingual / Multimedia technology
or high-end training and computing solutions, each of
these requires a continuing development thrust to help
reap the fruits of the IT revolution for our Society.
C-DAC has made pioneering contribution in these areas
and I wish C-DAC continuing success in its efforts to
help in our national goal of building India as an IT
Superpower".
Also present on the
occasion was Shri. P.V. Jayakrishnan, Secretary, Department
of Information Technology. Shri Jayakrishnan applauded
C-DAC's "pioneering work in bringing India on the map
of Supercomputing and also multilingual and multimedia
technology, which are most relevant for diffusing IT
to the masses".
