Brief Description
e-Pramaan is a National Single Sign On and e-Authentication service that allows users to access various services in a safe & secure manner. The objective of e-Pramaan 2.0 is to enhance e-Pramaan by providing additional authentication features, User consent management system; robust security through varied fraud management techniques and develop adaptive authentication solution.
e-Pramaan is a comprehensive framework that is designed to work in tandemwith projects like Aadhaar. It aims to consolidate the disparate IdentityProviders across government departments like Driving License, PAN, under one digital profile. This helps in building confidence of departments inimparting more data sensitive services to rightful users. The Single Sign Onfeature provides citizens of India a single window access to all GovernmentServices minimizing the efforts in maintaining multiple usernames andcredentials. Provides multifactor authentication (Password, OTP, DSC and biometric) as authentication factors.
e-Pramaan is also a part of MeriPehchaan- a National Single Sign On, which was launched by honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the Digital India Week on 4th July 2022 in Gandhinagar Gujarat.
Use Cases
- Single Sign On: User can access multiple services with single set of credentials and allows the user to log in once and access services without re-entering authentication factors.
- Multi-factor authentication: Can be used for providing multiple authentication factors for accessing online services depending upon the data sensitivity.
- Identity Verification: Can be used to verify the identity of a user using ID proofs like Aadhaar, PAN & Driving License.
- Biometric authentication: Can be used in applications where users have to be authenticated for DBT schemes, subsidy disbursement etc.
- OTP authentication: Can be used in applications where financial transactions, device verification etc needs to be carried out.
- DSC authentication: Can be used in applications where users have to be authenticated for e-tender, e-procurement, etc.
Salient Features
- Single Sign On (SSO): e-Pramaan offers Singke Sign On through SAML 2.0 and Open ID Connect (OIDC) protocols, compatible with both web &mobile applications.
- Identity proof verification: e-Pramaan enables Identity verification of users using the KYC API's of Aadhar, Driving License and PAN. e-Pramaan can easily be integrated with additional identities if API's are provided for online verification.
- Strong multi-factor authentication: The authentication framework offers multi-factor authentication using the password (Text, image, and pattern-based Grid), OTP (SMS, email, mobile App), digital certificate, and biometrics (Fingerprint, IRIS-Aadhar based).
- Flexible authentication chaining schemes: Services can choose various combinations of authentication types; configurable at runtime effective from the next user session.
- First-level authorization: Services can create and assign roles to the users of their system. The Configuration can be done on the department portal.
- fraud management control: e-Pramaan monitors user behavior based on the IP address of the devices, OS, and browser. Any anomalies found in the behavior are notified immediately to the authentic user through email.
- Multi-device multi-platform support: All APIs are on the HTTP and REST making it platform and device independent.
- 2-way authentication: Both user and the accessed service are registered with a well-defined automatic vetting process; thus building trust for both parties.
