In a significant push toward technological self-reliance in the earth sciences sector, C-DAC and the Geological Survey of India (GSI) formally entered into a strategic partnership today by signing a comprehensive Umbrella Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30th, 2026. The ceremony was held at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi, in the esteemed presence of Shri S. Krishnan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), marking a unified, high-level approach to integrating advanced digital technologies directly into national earth science operations.
This landmark alliance represents a critical convergence of apex national capabilities, systematically pairing sovereign high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure with deep geological domain expertise to address complex sub-surface exploration challenges. By deploying state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) frameworks and massive computational power, the partnership shifts traditional geoscientific analysis into the age of deep tech. This integration allows for the rapid processing of massive, multi-layered geophysical datasets, enabling high-resolution 3D subsurface mapping, predictive modeling for mineral targeting, and the automated cognitive processing of decades of unstructured geological records into a domain-specific Large Language Model (LLM). Furthermore, the collaboration strengthens national resilience through advanced disaster mitigation, driving slope-scale landslide monitoring via Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), early warning systems, and Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) studies. Ultimately, this inter-ministerial synergy accelerates the discovery of critical minerals and Rare Earth Elements (REE), directly bolstering India's economic security, supply chain resilience, and technological sovereignty.
The Umbrella MoU was formally signed by Shri E. Magesh, Director General, C-DAC, and Shri Pradeep Singh, Additional Director General, Geological Survey of India (GSI). The event was also attended by senior leadership and dignitaries, including Shri Sudeep Shrivastava, Joint Secretary, MeitY; Shri Maneesh Khar, Deputy Director General, DGCO, GSI; Dr. Praveer Pankaj, Director, DGCO, GSI; Dr. Mukesh Verma, Director, DGCO, GSI; and Shri Manoj Jain, Group Coordinator (R&D in IT), MeitY; Smt Geeta Singh, Scientist C, MeitY.
