VEGA Processor Workshop for School Students

C-DAC ThiruvananthapuramHardware Design Group (HDG) successfully conducted the fourth edition of its One-Day Hands-on Workshop on VEGA Processor Programming for School Students on July 11th, 2026. The workshop received an enthusiastic response, bringing together 127 students from Classes VII to XII representing 23 schools across Kerala. Designed to spark interest in indigenous processor technology, the programme provided participants with hands-on exposure to electronics, embedded systems, and practical programming concepts.

The programme began with an inaugural ceremony, where Ms. Rajasree S, Scientist G and Head-CSS, MIS, C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the importance of fostering innovation and encouraging school students to explore emerging technologies from an early age. Dr. Santhosh S, Scientist E and Head-ADM, and Ms. Deepa Sivan, Scientist F, Hardware Design Group, C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram, delivered the felicitation addresses, commending the participants' enthusiasm and underscoring the role of indigenous technologies in advancing India's semiconductor ecosystem.

The technical sessions began with an introduction to the VEGA Processor, India's indigenous RISC-V-based processor developed by C-DAC under the DIR-V Programme of MeitY. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of processor architecture, embedded systems and the significance of indigenous processor technology through presentations, live demonstrations, and video sessions.

The workshop featured hands-on training using the ARIES Development Board powered by the VEGA Processor, where students, programmed the board, interfaced approximately nine sensors, and carried out real-time experiments. A VEGA Processor based Quiz Competition was also conducted to reinforce the concepts learned. The programme concluded with a feedback session from students and parents, who highly appreciated C-DAC's initiative in providing practical exposure to India's indigenous processor technology.
