Bootcamp on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology

Durgapur

December 19, 2025

C-DAC, Kolkata successfully organized a two-day Bootcamp on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology on December18th and 19th, 2025, highlighting the growing technological relevance of digital manufacturing in Industry 4.0. The programme was conducted at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) established at Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, providing participants exposure to advanced infrastructure and real-world manufacturing environments.

The bootcamp was organized under the national initiative "Finishing School Programme on 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Technology", a flagship project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and implemented by C-DAC, Kolkata. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by equipping engineering students with future-oriented digital manufacturing skills.

The first day, held at Durgapur Government Polytechnic College, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 students and faculty members across multiple engineering disciplines. Sessions focused on core concepts of additive manufacturing, including CAD modelling, slicing techniques, AM processes and industrial applications, enabling participants to understand how emerging manufacturing technologies are transforming product prototype design and production.

The second dayemphasized hands-on training and advanced design-to-manufacturing workflows, allowing participants to gain practical exposure to 3D printing technologies and their applications in various sectors. The interactive sessions helped participants appreciate the role of additive manufacturing in rapid prototyping, customization, cost optimization and sustainable production.

Feedback from participants reflected a strong demand for advanced training and specialization in Additive Manufacturing, with faculty members acknowledging the bootcamp’s contribution to outcome-based learning and skill development aligned with future industry needs. The programme is expected to play a vital role in creating a skilled talent pool in advanced manufacturing, supporting innovation, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in West Bengal and beyond.

Through such initiatives, C-DAC, Kolkata continues to strengthen academia–industry collaboration and prepare the next generation of engineers for emerging technologies shaping the future of manufacturing.
