C-DAC, Kolkataorganized a one-day workshop on "Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Compliance and Privacy Governance in Public Digital Services" on July 08th, 2026 at Monotel, Kolkata. The programme was organized as part of the MeitY-sponsored project on Audit and Assessment of Web and Mobile Applications in Compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act, 2023), with the objective of strengthening privacy governance and institutional preparedness across Government organizations.
The inaugural session was graced virtually by Shri Deepak Goel, Scientist G & Group Coordinator, Cyber Laws Division, MeitY, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Dr. Ch. A. S. Murty, Executive Director, C-DAC Hyderabad and Chief Investigator of the project, Shri Bharat Gupta, Scientist E, Cyber Laws Division, MeitY, and Shri Mrinmoy Das, Executive Director, C-DAC Kolkata, along with senior officials from C-DAC and participating Government departments.
The workshop brought together senior officers from various departments of the Government of West Bengal, Government of India organizations, and public-sector institutions, including the Departments of Finance, Forests, Fire & Emergency Services, School Education, Tribal Development, Information & Cultural Affairs, Information Technology & Electronics, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), National Informatics Centre (NIC), Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), Balmer Lawrie and several other organizations.
The technical programme was designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of the DPDP Act, 2023 and its implementation in Government digital services.
Shri Sourav Mitra, Scientist E, C-DAC Kolkata, presented an overview of the DPDP Act, covering its framework, key provisions, and stakeholder responsibilities. Shri Bharat Gupta, Scientist E, Cyber Laws Division, MeitY, discussed organizational compliance and implementation strategies for Government organizations. Smt. Indraveni Chebolu, Scientist F and Co-Chief Investigator, C-DAC Hyderabad, highlighted practical approaches to DPDP compliance, including privacy audits, implementation planning, and best practices.
An interactive Q&A session was moderated by Shri Ritesh Mukherjee, Scientist F and Co-Chief Investigator, C-DAC Kolkata, allowing participants to discuss implementation challenges and compliance-related queries. The workshop concluded with closing remarks by Smt. Sonali Dhali Mustafi, Scientist E, C-DAC Kolkata, who coordinated the event and thanked the Chief Guest, distinguished speakers, participants, and the organizing team for their valuable support.
The programme also featured a live demonstration of the DPDP Audit Framework currently being developed by project team, C-DAC Kolkata to support systematic privacy assessments and compliance audits. The workshop received an enthusiastic response from the participating organizations and reaffirmed C-DAC's commitment to assisting Government departments in building secure, privacy-aware, and citizen-centric digital services through technical innovation, capacity building, and practical implementation support.
