Strengthening ICS/OT Cybersecurity Skills

C-DAC Hyderabad conducted a four-day Training and Certification Programme on "Industrial Control Systems (ICS)/Operational Technology (OT) Security – Level 1" from July 7th to 10th, 2026 under the ISEA Project Phase-III initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The programme was organised as part of the initiative “Generating Highly Skilled & Certified Cyber Security Professionals (CISOs)”, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of CISOs, Deputy CISOs, CISO team members and cybersecurity aspirants from government and other sectors.

A total of 26 participants representing government organisations, public-sector institutions, industry, academia and cybersecurity organisations from across the country attended the programme.

The training covered the fundamentals of ICS, SCADA, Distributed Control Systems and Industrial IoT, along with IT–OT differences, Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture, PLCs, RTUs, sensors and actuators, industrial networking, Modbus communication, OT asset visibility, threats and vulnerabilities, MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, IEC 62443, and security zones and conduits.

Participants also gained practical exposure through hands-on exercises in industrial asset identification, Purdue architecture mapping, industrial traffic analysis using Wireshark, passive asset discovery using GrassMarlin, safe asset discovery using Nmap NSE scripts, critical-infrastructure OSINT, Shodan reconnaissance, Modbus TCP enumeration and industrial protocol security assessment.

The programme followed an interactive training methodology comprising technical sessions, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, industrial testbed activities and practical security-assessment exercises. It concluded with an assessment, participant feedback and certification.

The training initiative was conducted under the directive support of Dr. Ch. A. S. Murty, Executive Director, C-DAC Hyderabad. The programme was implemented under the leadership of Dr. Sunnam Venkata Srikanth, Scientist F, EMDE Group, with support from Shri Saishiva Reddy Gatla, Shri Vinay Kumar, Shri Om Gandhal and Ms. Ruksana Shaik, Project Engineers, C-DAC Hyderabad.

The programme was coordinated by Shri Vamshi Krishna Palakurthi, Scientist E, and Shri E. Naresh, Project Officer.
