The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), premier research and development organisation under the Department of Information Technology of the Union Government, launched its high-performance Computing Resource Management Engine (CHReME) portal, here on Tuesday.

CHReME is a Web-based portal that empowers users with intuitive graphical interface and provides easy usage as well as management of resources of high performance computing (HPC) systems.

Inaugurating the portal, Mr Rajan Joseph,Director-General, C-DAC, said there was a huge influx of HPC users demanding rapid growth with more processing power and storage resources.

The first full-fledged deployment of CHReME will be at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Noida.

CHReME is fully customised according to the user requirements and can be deployed for any of the scientific domains. Various administrative functionalities like Queue Management, Host Management and Compiler and Libraries Configuration can be easily achieved with the CHReME.

Mr Goldi Misra, Group Coordinator and Head, HPC Solutions Group, C-DAC, said that the portal would help the scientific communities concentrate more on their domain research rather than getting into the complexities of executing their application codes and optimisation of various runs.

As part of its HPC initiatives, C-DAC will start a regional office in Kochi to oversee the South Indian operations.

The activities at the centre will include design and deployment of HPC facilities, porting and parallelising of scientific and enterprise applications and training and workshops on parallel and multicore programming.

C-DAC is also conducting a four-day certified workshop on high-performance computing and multicore programming here from Tuesday. It aims at giving an insight into the potential of high performance computing and multicore programming in solving grand challenge problems in the fields of physics, chemistry, bio-informatics, meteorology, climatology, space research, structural mechanics and astrophysics and astronomy, among other things.
